Cancer Treatment

Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the most common types of skin cancer; in 95 percent of cases, these cancers do not spread (or metastasize) and respond well to surgery and/or radiation therapy.
A common treatment for non-melanoma skin cancers is Mohs surgery, also known as Mohs micrographic surgery. During Mohs surgery, layers of cancer-containing skin are progressively removed and examined until only cancer-free tissue remains. Mohs surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis using a local anesthetic.
